   Proposal Description:
   The overarching aim is to assess whether those with a family history of dementia have different atrophy patterns compared with those without. The specific research questions are:     A) In AD, is there a specific atrophy pattern associated with having a parent with dementia vs. no record of a parent with dementia? Does any particular pattern survive adjustment for cognitive severity? Is there an effect of gender of the child? Do analyses survive adjustment for APOE e4 for those who have been tested?  B) In AD, are atrophy patterns similar for those who have a mother affected, father affected or both affected? Does any particular pattern survive adjustment for severity? Is there an effect of gender of the child? Do analyses survive adjustment for APOE e4 for those who have been tested?  C) Are similar patterns seen in controls and MCI to AD when comparing the groups of subjects with a parental history against those with no parental history?   D) Is age of the mother at birth of the child predictive of atrophy or atrophy pattern?
